Ashley Madison is a spicy online dating service marketed to people who are already in a relationship. The website was launched 10 years ago in 2001. Ashley Madison claims to have 8 million members. Alexa.org shows the site receiving some 800,000 unique visitors per month. The name of the site was created from two of the most popular female baby names "Ashley" and "Madison". Since its launch Ashley Madison has drawn heavy criticism over the subject matter of the site. Consultant Trish McDermott for example - who helped found Match.com - accused Ashley Madison of being a "business built on the back of broken hearts, ruining marriages and damaging families". AM owner Biderman responded by stating that his dating portal is just a platform not convincing anyone to commit infidelity.
On Feb 22, 2010 the company approached the city of Phoenix (Arizona) with an offer of $10 million to rename the Sky Harbor Airport to Ashley Madison International Airport over a five-year period. Even though the city was in financial trouble, it rejected the offer.
On June 10, 2010 the website tmz.com reported that Ashley Madison made an offer of $25 million to rename New Meadowlands Stadium to AshleyMadison.com Stadium.
